Uganda's NGO Working On One Thing Only — The Air We Breathe
We believe that clean air, indoors and outdoors, is vital to the health, safety and overall well-being of our communities. Clean Air Network unites scientists, lawyers, activists, educators and ordinary citizens to fight for cleaner air and safer transport.
Our Focus Areas
- Clean air indoors; at home and at work
- Clean air outdoors; on our streets and roads
- Safer, cleaner transport for every Ugandan
Who We Are
Clean Air Network is Uganda's NGO focused on air issues.
We are the sole non-governmental organisation in Uganda exclusively focused on air quality. We bring together policy makers, riders, financiers, researchers and civil society into one shared transition agenda; because no single actor can clean the air alone.
Over the years our work has concentrated on catalysing major government policy shifts to improve outdoor air quality through media engagement, research, public education and relentless advocacy. We work with government, the private sector and communities to accelerate the transition to clean energy and clean transport solutions in Uganda.
Indoor Air
Household cooking and lighting smoke is a daily health risk. We make the case for clean energy at home
Outdoor Air
Traffic, dust and polluting fuels drive street-level pollution. We push for cleaner transport and fuels

How We Work
Three Pillars, One Shared Transition Agenda
Our work is built around convening key stakeholders, mobilising finance and creating public awareness, strengthened by research, public education and policy advocacy to drive lasting clean-air solutions.
Convening
We bring policymakers, riders, financiers and civil society into one shared transition agenda
Finance
We engage financial institutions and shift lending to clean energy and electric vehicles across the country.
Awareness Creation
We reachout to Ugandans and build a constituency for phasing out polluting fuels and fossil-fuel vehicles
We measure the air so that no one has to guess what they are breathing. We convene so that no one has to fix it alone. We advocate so that clean air stops being an aspiration and becomes the ordinary condition of life in Uganda.
How Clean Air Network Helps Uganda Make The Transition
We work on both sides of the change: retiring polluting fuels and fossil-fuel vehicles, and scaling clean energy and electric mobility.
Polluting Fuels & Fossil-Fuel Vehicles
Diesel and petrol engines, charcoal and kerosene keep pollution in our homes and on our streets.
Clean Energy & Electric Vehicles
Electric mobility and clean household energy cut emissions where Ugandans live, work and travel.
